Welcome from Deputy Carolyn Labey
In December last year I was delighted to host Jersey Connections’ first networking event in London, which featured a performance from Jersey-based spoken-word artist Christian Foley and brought people together from a range of backgrounds – from university students, artists and musicians to young professionals in sectors including finance and fashion.
The Jersey Society of London and its Chair, Nicholas Paines, also attended, representing the Society’s reach across the diaspora in London itself. I’d like to thank all who attended and provided their feedback on future events and how we can continue to build our community.
Since then, we have hosted a special screening of the revived classic detective series Bergerac at The Garden Cinema in Covent Garden. This exciting event celebrated the legacy of the beloved Jersey-set series and featured an exclusive Q&A session with the new series’ executive producer, Brian Constantine. The event brought together members of Jersey’s community, all eager to relive the adventures of the iconic detective: Jim Bergerac.
With that said, Jersey Connections is by no means a London or even UK focused network. We have Islanders signed up from California, Canada, Europe and beyond. The remarkable growth of our diaspora across the continents highlights Jersey Connections’ purpose: to cultivate a strong international community united by our Island Identity, bonded by our unique sense of place in the world. This platform alows us to network, share our stories and our journey, develop new skils and elevate what makes Jersey special in every part of the globe.
We have exciting plans for future events in London and potentially further abroad, wherever there are vibrant pockets of Island connections. In these newsletters, we will bring you interviews with members, updates on Island developments, spotlights on the businesses, arts, music, and literature highlights, and more. I encourage you to join me in welcoming all new members of Jersey Connections and to invite your friends and family to sign up. Please keep an eye on all the exciting content and events we have in store for you throughout the year.
