Press Release – Island Identity Booklet – March 2026

A brochure that captures the essence and subtleties of Jersey has been published as an accessible information tool explaining Jersey’s unique constitutional arrangements and the language which should be used to describe them.

The publication, ‘Jersey – a small island making big waves’ will be available in the States Greffe Bookshop and is being distributed to various locations, including parish halls to offer a better understanding to Jersey’s constitution, economy, culture and environment.

The production of a brochure was one of 48 recommendations in the Island Identity Report, which concluded that promotional information booklets aimed at different audiences but with coherent narratives, could be used as an educational tool to travelling sports teams, volunteers, international business travellers, politicians and civil servants representing the Island overseas, and could also be used as gifts to visiting dignitaries.

The Minister for International Development and lead on the Island Identity project, Deputy Carolyn Labey, said: “Significant work has taken place to produce this booklet, which has built on the original policy panel’s Island Identity report and subsequent consultation
summary, and I am delighted with the final result. It will be an invaluable tool in enabling Jersey to be presented at its best internationally, ensuring a coherent narrative that reflects its identity as a small Island nation.

“The publication is part of wider work which has continued under the banner of the Island Identity Project, including the recognition of Liberation Day as Jersey’s national day, and the establishment of Beautiful Jersey as our anthem. I hope that this will help to improve public understanding of Jersey’s constitution, heritage and community; foster inclusion so that all Islanders feel they belong; and make better use of Jersey’s autonomy to shape a positive future.

“The overarching ambition of the Island Identity Project is to strengthen, protect and promote what makes Jersey unique by celebrating its distinct cultural, historical and environmental character, building a stronger sense of belonging and civic pride among Islanders, and developing a clearer, more confident international personality for the Island.”
