From Liberation Day to the Summer Solstice on my Election Campaign During the “Election 2022” campaign for Deputy of Grouville and St Martin, (the Eastern District 9 if one must), my Manifesto was delivered to every household across both parishes. It can also be found on my website: carolynlabey.je. A shorter 500-word version can be read in the booklet delivered by Vote.je at the beginning of June, and there’s also the 1000-word questionnaire which appeared in the JEP Election Supplement, last week.

I’ve spent a most enjoyable 4 weeks knocking on doors – mainly in St Martin, as I knew I wouldn’t get around both Parishes in a month and felt that after 20 years of service the electorate in Grouville might already know who I am! They also get regular updates of my political activities in the Grouville Gazette each quarter. But to ensure the opportunity to meet me was extended – I hosted eight ‘Meet the Candidate’ Parish Surgeries in various locations around both parishes which included the Seymour Inn, St Catherine’s Breakwater Cafe, The Kitchen in Gorey Village, the Royal St Martin, Holme Grown x 2 and The Tearoom on St Martin’s Green x 2.

There were two in-person Hustings held; one at Grouville Parish Hall on 6th June and the other at St Martin’s Public Hall on 10th June. The recordings of both events can now be viewed on YouTube. There was a live BBC lunchtime radio interview on 8th June with all the ‘Eastern District’ candidates, and another “Digital Hustings” organised by Vote.je and a two-minute podcast was kindly recorded by the Bailiwick Express and can be found on their media channel. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 4 weeks, walking around the leafy lanes of Grouville and St Martin on beautiful, hot sunny days, meeting old friends and new.

Running an election campaign takes courage, huge amounts of work and organisation. It’s certainly an experience, and one which will always stay with me. I thank those of you who have offered me kind words of support – it is what keeps me going.

And all that remains now, is for you to vote…
