This week I had the honour as International Development Minister of opening a JOA event at the Jersey Arts Centre, which brought together young leaders, global partners and our island community for an inspiring conversation on “Youth Driving Change”.
International Women's Day (IWD), celebrated annually on March 8, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for advancing gender equality.
Some of the subjects for discussion at the Youth Conference this year: Youth, Human Rights, the Environment, Health, and Politics.
During the 2023 Democracy week activities we canvassed in town to encourage awareness of the events and activities.
Jersey now matches Wales in the proportion of women elected with more women than men successfully elected for the first time ever.
I frequently work with the Island's Deaf Community. Their needs and requirements are often over-looked and I would like to think I am their 'go-to person' in the States Assembly who will try to get their needs recognised and considered.

Ensuring women have equal opportunity in Jersey is an issue I have been pursuing for many years.
It was therefore a milestone moment for me – as well as Jersey – when in 2021 I was able to participate
